Real Life Discipleship Review #3
Relational Environment
We continue our look at what it means to grow disciples of Jesus. Today, we are going to look at the necessary components of a Relational Environment.
When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that he preached to thousands, had hundreds of closer followers, but invested his live most intentionally in twelve men. He spend time with them every day: traveling, helping them learn to be a witness, talking about life. He modeled for them “Life Together.” That is why he was able to have so much impact with them.
At Lincoln Christian Church, we have different levels of relational environments. We have big groups (worship services and special events), mid-sized groups (Sunday School Classes, Bible Studies, Men’s Studies, Women’s Studies) and small groups (LifeGroups). Each of these environments has different dynamics, but they are all designed to foster a deeper relationship with God and a deeper relationship with other Christians who help us become more like Jesus.
As a disciple-maker, I hope that you take time outside of your group or class meeting to deepen your friendship with the people you are discipling. Maybe it is as simple as a quick email or “shout out” on Facebook. It could be a quick “How ya doin’?” phone call or inviting the family over for supper. Relationships pave the way for the greatest progress in discipleship.
